Is Facebook the New Email for Local Business Advertising? | Social ...

This is a guest post by Ryan Kaupe.

Local Businesses Models are changing constantly when the uses of Social Media are bringing in new customers all the time. Business models that have a large, loyal fan bases that use templates that have mass emails to deliver new deals, products, and company information is a thing of the past.

Yes, there is a certain niche for this marketing strategy for older customers, but using New Media tactics (Facebook) to publicize every aspect of your small business is a much more effective tool.

Traditional Email vs Facebook Email

Email ? Emails are usually acquired from hand-written inquiries from customers or mass lists that might be targeted customers.

This tool is ineffective for two reasons:

1) Many people set up spam email lists or folders that enable most company information to be lost in the hustle and bustle of other spam information.

2) Sending empty information to mass email lists can be negative public relations for annoying potential customer.

Facebook - Setting up a Facebook business group for your business is ideal. Customers that are loyal and willing to find out more about your company can ?Like? the page and find out easily and quickly the information they want.

With Facebook being the most searched website on Google, it is the ideal platform for providing new exciting deals about your company. Customers that see a status update about your business see it as way less intrusive than a blanketed email.

You can also see from comments and ?likes? which products, picture, promotional ideas, and miscellaneous items your customers appreciate the best.

To acquire these ?likes? initially on Facebook, you will have to use the old model of email however. When first creating the Facebook page, there is an option to start inviting potential fans of the page.

At this stage, it would be an ideal time to use the old model of the email list to send one mass email to all customers to come to the Facebook page and use this model from now on. The only time I suggest employing mass email lists is to invite customers to the page.

Integrating New and Old Media

After this initial process, your company should put the Facebook group on every hard paper material employed ? business cards, flyers, and email templates should all have the Facebook Group link and the company?s logo attached.

Not only is this a great marketing tool, but also it provides the potential customer the satisfaction that your business is in the new media platform.

Interacting with the Customer

Facebook is also a great way to easily interact with masses of customers in a public forum. You can answer simple questions in comments or updates instead of employing old techniques of sending individual emails. This also shows customers in a publicized culture that you are willing to help the customer in any way and is a great public relations tool to have positive feedback.

If you are skeptical in using this business model it is totally understandable, but the changing culture on the Internet and how customers interact with businesses they use makes it essential to do so. If you don?t think you are technically capable to do these tasks, there are multiple marketing companies that offer reliable deals with setting up these business marketing tools.
